George burning it up!!

Ian Rambles
Free WiFi and a good signal - but nowhere to sit in the cabin. I had to keep moving from one picnic table to another as the sun moved round,

I'd hoped for more kids on the camp sites - but US schools aren't out yet so the places are full of retired couples in RV's.

Fiona's Journal
We have had a lovely lazy day, swimming, reading, eating and lazing about. Ian and I shopped first thing, another Wal-mart but much better food section than the previous one, and got some good coffee and some things to cook since we have a tiny kitchen area in this cabin.

Boys and bikes
I bought an iPod charger – yes, I know I bought one last time but, mysteriously, that one never emerged from the shopping when we unpacked it later in the day. I don't know if we left it at the checkout or threw it away with the empty bags and excess packaging or what happened. Anyway, I am pretty desperate for my own music so I bought another one. I have to say that we have not been totally deprived of music. We have found a radio station called “Ethel” which we all like. It plays continuous rock music with no adverts or chat and it is great for driving to.

Back at the camp we swam a lot, got rather sun-burned (which forced me to work out where I had packed the San Tan Lotion and dig it out), rented some bizarre three and four wheel bikes and rode around the camp site, got a huge load of dirty washing done in the very cheap camp laundry and I listened to my iPod.

All these sites have WiFi so Ian tackled The Veterinary Centre newsletter and the boys can make contact with their on-line gaming friends.

One of the great things about these camps is that we are starting to see a bit of America's wildlife, other than roadkill I mean (we have seen plenty of dead deer and racoons and other unidentifiable creatures on the roadside). The birds are similar to ours in Britain but not identical. There are some birds that look a bit like a thrush or a female blackbird but have a really golden yellow breast plumage, there are very large almost black butterflies, there are lizards and in the evening the sound of crickets ( or are they cicadas?) is amazingly loud and rather like the noise you get if you are close to an electricity pylon, a high-pitched vibrato hum. We also saw fire flies – or rather we saw momentary flashes of fluorescent green light at about shin level between the trees and mostly on the edge of our field of vision. I suppose you get used to them if you live here but I thought they were just magical!!

Arthur's Log:
Good day. I was in and out of the pool all day and George was in and out the shop all day.

The Harry Report
The bikes were very strange at first, having to lean as I turned, but good once I got used to it.

George's Musings
The bikes were very fun but hard to steer. Harry got very frustrated with them.
